It started out a .38-56, but has been re-bored and chambered to .45-90 in 26" octagon barrel. The bore looks like new. The gun has been fitted with a windage adjustable Columbia Precision tang peep sight and a folding leaf rear barrel sight. This is the correct rear sight for the tang peep if it had left the factory like this. Note that I said "refinished" and not restored. Much of the lettering has been buffed so it is just visible and the polish on the blued parts is much higher than the factory would have done it, with many edges rounded a bit. The case coloring is quite good, however. Everything appears to be original Winchester factory parts, wood included. Interestingly, the magazine has been double pinned through the magazine retaining band. Both the .45-90 and the .50 calibers were noted for sometimes having the magazine slide forward due to heavy recoil. The double pins probably prevent that happening. The gun has been used since refinishing, and shows various scratches and small dents as one would expect from a using gun. Because of the date of manufacture, this gun is an antique and no FFL is required.
