According to its BNR serial number prefix, this .357 Military & Police Heavy Barrel Stainless was manufactured in March of 1993, as Smith & Wesson went into high gear anticipating the Clinton Administration's Anti-Gun agenda. It is one of the last fully traditional Model 65s, with square butt grip frame. Note also the Satin Stainless hammer and smooth .312 Satin Stainless Combat Trigger. Our friends at DGS Custom Gunsmithing have refinished this former service revolver to a solid matte stainless finish, and any detractions are residual and negligible. Pachmayr SK-GP grips are the ones that served with this revolver, and they exhibit moderate weakness to their checkering on the back areas. We rate this revolver as Excellent / Refinished; but photos should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, only a thin etchy streak with only carbon deposit visible and no cutting. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible, no more than 1/2 mm total movement, both with the trigger relaxed and with it pulled. This Model 65 has had few if any Magnum rounds fired through it. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels an exceptional 20 degrees after the cylinder times in all six positions on double action. On single action, the hammer travels a full 30 to 35 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 3/4 pounds. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect tight .006. This is a very well constructed, very well preserved Model 65. We are including a North Carolina Department of Corrections left hand duty holster.
