Here is a fully traditional New England Firearms company shotgun, a descendant of the classic H&R 088 Topper, manufactured in the same H&R factory as the Toppers in 1997, according to its NH serial number prefix. This shoguns is attractive, and only close inspection reveals the extensive light spotting on the color casehardened receiver and gray toning to the top of the barrel. Barrel is 22 inches, Modified Choke, with 3 inch chamber. Combined with the fact of the 3 inch chamber is a very light 5 1/2 pound weight empty, a recipe for some substantial recoil. These have always been well built shotguns, and the gun can stand the magnums if the operator can stand it. We rate this one as Very Good, since no more than 20 to 25 percent of its finish is affected by any wear or weathering by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves.
