Ithaca Single Barrel Trap, "KNICK" MODEL, GRADE 4E, MINT GUN!!!
If you scan the internet gun selling sites for Ithaca Single Barrel Trap (SBT) guns, they are fairly easy to find, and many of them will be considerably less to buy than this fine Ithaca SBT, sn403708 made in 1952. There are many reasons for this; some are less desirable Flues Model SBT's with serial numbers under 400,000. Most have been shot A LOT, and show much wear. Worse yet, most have been altered by the tinkerers they call "Trap Shooters" who cut stocks, add apparatuses, mess with triggers, restock them with odd ball stocks, etc. These guns may still be competitive shooters, but they certainly have little collectors value or value to shooters who want to shoot fine, vintage and correct shotguns. Now make no mistake, there are few shotguns, modern or vintage, that can come to the traps with the patterns and shooting characteristics, including brute strength, that has been seen in the Ithaca known as the Knickerbocker (Knick for short, named after its designer). For decades it was THE gun to beat at the Grand Nationals of the ATA. These are shooting machines! This gun has it all; untouched, unaltered since leaving the factory, nearly 100% factory finishes everywhere, 32" barrels, great stock dimensions, pretty wood, the works! It is a rare find and there could not be a better condition gun available anywhere. If you ever wanted to own the perfect example of a finely engraved Ithaca Knick SBT, this one is investment quality and sure to increase in value as you enjoy its use.
The 32" barrel retains 99.5% factory blue, choked Full at .035 constriction, bore diameter .724, minimum barrel wall thickness of 46 thou, a few very light handling marks, 2 3/4" chambers, ventilated rib, no dents or dings, double white beads, strong ejector, barrel tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, barrel engraving and lettering sharp and clear, mirror bore, as good as new!
The action is finely engraved with that classic Ithaca scroll and scenes, engraving sharp as new, 100% vivid case color, excellent screws, action tight with lever waaay right of center, crisp single trigger with pull of 4.25lbs., trigger guard has 99% blue and nicely engraved, mechanically perfect in all ways.
The nicely figured wood has a few light handling marks, most of the original factory finish still intact, excellent checkering with flor-de-lis design, no cracks or repairs anywhere, superb wood to metal fit, 14 3/4" LOP to factory Sunburst pad, 1 3/4" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase), a great set of wood.
This gun has been shot, but very, very little. I have shot it and it is a very soft shooting gun at 8 1/2lbs. and balanced perfectly 1/4" ahead of the hinge pin. This is a gun you can take to the club and when you pull it out everybody will gather around to ooh and aaah. The engraving is all done by hand and superbly done, the wood is pretty, and the elaborate checkering draws the eye. A gun like this, built today, could not be had for twice the price you can own this one for. And there is no doubt that the value will continue to grow.
