Description: Final reduction before it goes up on the auction. USED IN THE CIVIL WAR! An outstanding US Springfield Model 1816 musket having had the Hewes & Phillips patent breach conversion and rear sight added, as marked "1862", to fire as a percussion musket for use in the war. The correct sling and bayonet go with the US musket. The Hewes & Phillips conversions were widely used during the War Between the States, by both sides. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson took a 69caliber ball from one of these "Pumpkin Throwers", which was what killed him. They were also used with high effectiveness to fire "buck and ball", which was very deadly. This rig is correct and in exceptional shape, showing all the correct markings from Springfield. contact sashe at cfl. rr. com and I will send you more photos and details on this musket and accessories. Ask all questions and I will answer fast. This is among the highest sought after firearms from the War Between the States, as it was use throughout that war.
