Here is an excellent reincarnation of John M. Browning’s Winchester 1892 Lever Action rifle, the Rossi R92 chambered in .357 Caliber, manufactured in Brazil by Taurus's Rossi holdings and imported by Braztech in Miami. Its only departure from the classic 1892 design is a hammer block safety, mounted unobtrusively on top of the bolt just forward of the hammer. Metal is entirely blue steel. Buttstock and forend are nicely grained Brazilian Hardwood, close to walnut as you can get. Buttplate is blue steel as well. Weight is a pleasantly balanced 6 pounds empty. Barrel is 20 inches long, and capacity is 10 +1 rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special. Weight empty is only 6 pounds, and overall length is a compact 37 inches. This specimen comes to us from Taurus’s distribution system. It is what we call a factory demo: a sales rep’s sample, perhaps even a Las Vegas showgirl from the annual SHOT show in that notable city. It comes in its factory box with instruction manual, two keys, and factory registration card. Extra label on top of the box reads, Factory Reconditioned. It carries, writes the label, the Exclusive Braztech Functional Repair Policy, but not on its finish. That means that if it gives mechanical problems, Braztech will fix it, but they will not perform a freebie refinish job. It does not need it anyway. Surface detractions are negligible to minimal, really no more than any of its brand new mates on display in a gun shop. We rate it as Excellent, perhaps Near Mint in box, 95 to 98 percent by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
