It was manufactured in 1944 at the Long Branch arsenal in Toronto Ontario Canada. These No 4 MK1* rifles were a major redesign over earlier models. The new features included a strengthened receiver, stronger bolt and a heavier barrel. The Enfield #4 MK1* Long Branch rifles have a reputation for being higher quality then other WWII produced Enfields from other arsenals. Many claim that the Long Branch rifles are the most accurate of the Enfield series of rifles. This rifle has two flip up peep sights one for 300 meters and the other peep sight for 600 meters. Stock and handguard appear to be walnut. Wood is in very good shape with normal handling and storage marks. Long Branch bolt mismatched to rifle. Bore has shine and sharp lands. The ten round magazine is both Long Branch "B" and Savage "S" inside box marked. Stock is Savage marked with "S" inside box. Front barrel band is Long Branch "B" marked. Butt plate is Canadian "C" Broad Arrow marked. Magazine housing is Long Branch "B" marked. There was some sharing of parts between both Long Branch and Savage. Savage stopped production in late 1943 and all Savage spare parts were shipped to Long Branch. Rifle comes with original Canadian military "C" Broad Arrow marked Khaki rifle sling with brass fittings. Comes with DCP Arrow marked black plastic oiler in the butt stock. There is a very small import mark on the barrel by the muzzle. This Enfield would be an outstanding collectable or excellent shooter.
