This model 94 is unique in that it represents the transition from the saddle ring carbine to the newer design that saw the addition of the ramp-mounted front sight, elimination of the saddle ring and the use of the newer, shorter carbine style semi-buckhorn sight with the 32-C elevator. It retains, however, the carbine stock with the flat comb and curved butt plate. It was manufactured in 1940 (s/n 1,127,28x) and is chambered for the 30 WCF (30-30) cartridge. The gun is in very good + condition for its age. There is minor scratching on the receiver and barrel and minimal handling marks on the wood. Both stock and fore end are free of cracks and chips and the wood stands proud at the receiver. The tang is marked with “WINCHESTER”, “TRADE MARK” and “MADE IN U.S.A.”, with the latter two markings having lines to the left and right. The screws have been touched, but are far from molested. NOW THE BAD NEWS – THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RECEIVER HAS TWO EXTRA HOLES WHERE A PEEP SIGHT WAS MOUNTED. The holes have correct plug screws and a professional gunsmith apparently did the work. I have priced this otherwise very collectible Winchester accordingly. Additional photographs upon request.
