Minature Japanese Army Rifle
SS#71XXX The man I got this gun from said it was a training rifle for pre-war Japanese youth however I have been in the gun business all my life and have never seen one so don't know if the story I got with the gun was true or not. The gun looks exactly like a WWII Japanese millitary issue. The stock is short 12" LOP and has dings but no cracks or chips(see photos). The bore is shootable and the action is good. It has a metal butt plate and sling attchments as well as a aircraft style rear sight. I don't have any shells to test fit but the bore looks like 7.7 rather than 6.5 Jap. After looking the rifle over I thought it was just a regular issue rifle that had been cut down as it looks like the barrel has been shortened and a brass post crudely installed as a front sight but after closer inspection the metal butt plate seems to fit the shorter sock perfectly and does not appear to have been altered therefore I really don't know exactly what this gun is.

After listing this item a fellow Guns America member sent me the following information....... At the bottom of the page you'll see an example of the same rifle. It is indeed a Japanese Child's trainer rifle. It fires specially made blanks and the pressures from live ammunition will cause the receiver/barrel to rupture and potentially injure the shooter. The size of the rifle is 7/8ths of the regular rifle size, it has its own style of bayonet and the one you have in your picture there is duffle cut signifying that it was likely a GI bringback.
