Offered for your consideration is this fine vintage 1873 Winchester that was made in 1888. The caliber is 38-40 WCF, the barrel is 24 inches in the desirable octagon configuration. The bore is very good+, rifling is strong and prominate with very, very light scattered pitting - I rate the bore a 7+ and should shoot cast or jacketed bullets with good accuracy. The barrel retains full coverage of thinning plum blue with typical wear on the sharp edges. The front sight is a very clean Rocky Mountain blade and the rear is a Winchester 22E with serrated edges. The barrel address, caliber and tang markings are all sharp and legible. The receiver is mechanically excellent, feeds, chambers and ejects smoothly. I have not test fired - yet. There is 65% coverage of plum blue with edge wear and thinning on the receiver flats. Operation and lockup is tight with no wear evident, lever is tight with no slop. The wood is tight and solid, no cracks, chips, holes or significant dents, just minor handling wear. The wood looks like it received a coat of varnish at some point but all wood is flush to proud above the metal. I don't believe this vintage '73 ever saw much use and was properly cared for over the past 124 years. Overall this fine old Winchester is just as tight as the day it was shipped from the factory. It will be an excellent addition to any collection and a fine shooter to boot!
