1868 Springfield Trapdoor in 50-70 govt. Rifle has all original Parts. Bore is shiny with near perfect rifling and has NO pitting or Rust. Stock has Not been sanded or refinished. Stock was cleaned with non abrasive cleanser to remove 150 years of crud. Shows a nice Wood Grain. Rubbed with boiled Linseed oil as most stocks produced during this time frame were done. Half Rifles produced were varnished. Other half were coated with linseed oil. Stock has Not been broken or repaired. Has all original Cartouches. Has 4 on left flat. Has stock inspector initials. Has Both script N from 1866 Model and L for 1868 Model. No idea why it would have both acceptance Stamps. Possibly used for 1866 then recut by Springfield for use on 1868. This is NOT a Bannerman Rifle. All metal has a brownish Patina on barrel, butt plate and trigger guard. Metal has Not been cleaned to simulate National Armory Bright. Has original Patina on all metal parts. All parts are Original and Correct for this model Rifle. Serial Nr. 322XX. Made in 1870. Block dated 1870. Rifle functions perfectly. I have fired it.
