From the County with probably the highest density of World War II Volunteers of any in our State, Carroll County, Tennessee, comes this solid, serviceable Savage .30-30 Bolt Action, Model 340 clip fed rifle. Savage began manufacturing these under the Stevens model 325 stamping in the late 1940s, then the Savage Model 340 beginning in 1950 or so. This one's date code is stamped D over C; manufactured in 1952 with the barrel likely stamped in 1951. Finish is well weathered brownish gun metal gray, but bore and mechanism are bright, clean, and excellent. This rifle likely either belonged to a returning Veteran or a Defense worker at the Milan, TN, Army Ammunition plant who bought it new. It has extensive weathering and graying, with an old refinish to its stock. Even though its percentage grade is in the fifty percent range, we classify it as good, perhaps even Very Good.
