Only an estimated 850 of these small frame New Haven Arms Co. "Volcanic" lever action pistols were manufactured between 1857 and 1860 with a 3-1/2" bbl. marked "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14 1854". The barrel has aged to a pleasant brown patina with very small area of pitting on left side. Untouched brass frame has a deep aged mustard color, a few very shallow small dents on the left side plate and minimal other handling marks. Very tight fitting side plates. Finger lever & hammer are aged and elevator has some remaining original blue. The grips fit very nicely with 90+% original varnish and slight wear at the bases. Mechanically in good shape with all correct parts present. The serial number is correctly stamped on the frame and both grips. A great example of this historically important precursor of the Winchester rifle.
