Description: Fox AE 12 Gauge sn27288 - 30" BARRELS, HIGH CONDITION, PHILLY GUN

It is amazing how scarce nice Fox AE guns are becoming. 12 gauge guns are certainly more prolific than any of the 16's or 20's, but finding good ones is the trick. What makes a "good one"? Most prefer Philly guns (though Savage made many just to the same standards!) with lots of factory condition remaining, modern shooting dimensions, all original factory parts, perfect screws, and of course, she has to look good! There are more heavy 12 gauge Fox guns out there, but for most that enjoy upland hunting the preference is something nice and light that is quick to the shoulder and easy to carry all day over hill and dale. Here we have that gun, serial #27288 made in 1922 in Philadelphia, weighing in at 7 1/4lbs. and balanced nicely between the hands. A very attractive gun with plenty of condition, it will serve you well in the field or at the shooting club. And, like most other vintage American double guns, the value will continue to rise as many more are bought and put in safes nation wide.

OTHER

The #3 weight 30" Chromox steel barrels retain 98% original factory blue, mirror bores, clear sharp lettering, no dents or mars, bore diameter .727/.729, choked IM/F (.025/.038, can be opened to your specs for $90 per barrel), minimum wall thickness 26 thou right, 21 thou left, factory 2 5/8" chambers (can be lengthened to 2 3/4" here at our shop, but not necessary in order to shoot 2 3/4" shells, if you don't know why, ask), ribs tight, ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, awesome!

The action retains 98% fading factory case color, quite vivid in most areas, action tight with lever well right of center, perfect screws, sharp clear engraving, crisp double triggers breaking at 5lbs. and 5.25lbs. front and back respectively, trigger guard blue is factory 95%, mechanically perfect in all ways.

The 1/2 round pistol grip stock has been wonderfully restored and is the original factory wood, with 14 1/8" LOP to the factory butt plate, 3" drop at heel, 1 3/4" drop at comb, neutral cast (stock can be bent in our shop to your specifications for an added $200 or so within 10 days of purchase; pad can be added to extend LOP in our shop as well), no cracks or splits, excellent checkering, excellent wood to metal fit, nice figure with fiddleback, nice clean stock with no repairs.

This is the Fox that looks near new but has been used enough that you don't mind shooting it. Long 30" barrels ensure a smooth swing on crossing birds or clays. Leave the chokes as is for a hard hitting long range gun, or open according to your needs. We can get the stock up to about 2 1/2" drop at heel if you need it that way by bending. It would be hard to find a nicer ejector AE Fox for your clays or upland hunting.

More photos upon request. We offer a 30 day mechanical warranty on this fine shotgun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS - open one of my ads and click on the line that says “see all items from this seller.” Thanks for looking!
