From service with the Service de Police de Montréal, Montreal Police Department in English, comes this S&W .357 Military and Police, numbered Model 13, Second Engineering change. From its 9D02000 range serial number, it was manufactured in late 1981, so it entered service under Chief André De Luca, and served intermittently for 25 years. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Construction is entirely steel, with replacement, period correct type Herretts Target Grip panels. Type is traditional double and single action revolver, hammer nose firing pin ignition with transfer bar safety device. Frame is K Medium, with Square Butt grip frame. Chambering is .357 Remington Magnum and .38 Smith & Wesson Special calibers interchangeably, with a cylinder capacity of 6 rounds. Cylinder is recessed or counterbored on its rear face. Barrel is One Piece 4 inch Heavy 1:18.75 five groove right hand rifling. Sight is barrel integral solid matte rib serrated blade front, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Trigger and hammer are original color casehardened .275 serrated face service trigger with matching serrated spur hammer. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with matte surface uppers. This 13-2’s surface detractions are moderate to extensive, principally lateral wear on the barrel, wear to the back strap, and moderate edge wear elsewhere. We rate this 13 as Good, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal, only a faint shallow crease that traverses 2/3 of the width of the top strap. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a perfect .007. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent; and the hammer travels an additional 10 degrees after the cylinder times on all six positions. On single action, trigger pull gauges at a crisp 4 1/8 pounds, and the hammer travels 20 to 25 degrees on all six after the cylinder times in single action. The single action trigger pull is a crisp and original 4 1/4 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed.
