Even though some of us snubbed the Colt 9mm Commanders in days of youthful 1970s frivolity, we are grateful to see a 1911 descendant in that venerable and effective caliber, especially these with the word Hartford on their frames. This is Colt’s Defender model, numbered model O7002D. Action, of course, is Single Action Only with main low profile safety and Series 80 firing pin safety. Frame is Colt Classic Lightweight Satin Nickel. Sights are black anodized genuine Novak, three dot configuration. Trigger is black anodized serrated face perforated skeleton type; and hammer is stainless skeleton Commander style serrated. Grips are factory-issued Hogue #43000 Officer Combat style with finger grooves on the wrap-around foregrip, and screws are standard slotted stainless factory Colt. Spring system is Colt Officer style full length rod, double spring and the rod has its own bushing. Barrel is 3 inch bell-nose, patterned similar to the groundbreaking Detonics Combat Master. Magazines are Colt stainless with one groove and three dimples, 9 round capacity, so capacity is 9 + 1. Weight empty is 22.8 ounces. Each Colt comes in its factory box with all its papers and factory California-compliant cable lock. Replacement pricing on these gets quoted at over $1,000 apiece in our area, and there simply aren’t any.
