Description:
On consignment we have a Colt Single Action Army revolver in .45 Colt. This revolver features a case colored frame and hammer with blued grip frame, Colt hard rubber grips, blued 6-shot cylinder, and 5.5"barrel with fixed sights. Gun retains strong bluing on grip frame, ejector rod housing, and cylinder, some light case coloring on the frame, and almost no bluing on the barrel. Underside of hammer and rear sight groove still show case colors, and most of the screws retain very good finish. Bore has light pitting, but the rifling is still strong. Action is in excellent condition.
Gun includes a complete original Bridgeport rig. The leather is pretty worn, but has no cracks or splits. It is starting to separate on one edge of the Bridgeport slide. There are some old cartridges in the belt loops.
The consignor has provided some interesting provenance that would place this particular piece in the ownership of one Frederick William Sheridan, first cousin to General Philip Henry Sheridan. Frederick was with the Fifth Cavalry at Tucson, AZ in 1871, at the Battle of the Caves in 1876, and was later Deputy Sheriff of Phoenix. There is a copy of a Colt factory letter dating this revolver to 1909, and the serial number is correct for that year, number 310957.
