Here is a specimen of the fabled Winchester model 37 Steelbilt Single Shot that came in with several odd and end guns on a Department Trade from Alameda County California. We are unclear as to what capacity it served in that jurisdiction; it was already cut to 23 3/4 inches, cylinder bore, with 39 3/4 inches overall length. The 37 has always been tough enough for most any kind of duty, and this one is no exception. We hazard that it was a confiscated shotgun that one of the deputies redeployed at some point back in the 1960s. Interior muzzle diameter mikes at .725. Buttstock measures its original 13 1/2 inches, including the original Winchester buttplate. Metal is very well preserved, strong original bluing with only occasional inconspicuous freckling on the surfaces. Buttstock and forend are original Walnut, with moderate amounts of scouring. There are no cracks anywhere in the wood. We classify this 37 Steelbilt as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
