Description:
Ithaca NID Field Grade 16 gauge sn466248, 70% CASE COLOR
The Ithaca NID, or “NEW ITHACA DOUBLE” was introduced in 1926 and replaced the most popular of all Ithaca doubles, the Flues Model that ran from 1909 to 1926. The NID was touted as having a brutishly strong action, lightning fast lock times with coil springs, some of the finest wood and checkering per grade of any maker, and very tasteful engraving. The double gun industry was already failing as the NID was released, and only 32,000 or so were made in all grades and gauges. Compare that to the 250,000 Parkers made and you see there are not many to be had. As most are aware, Field Grade guns from any maker usually saw hard use gathering food and scattering pests, so to find one in superb, factory original condition is unusual. This fine little Ithaca NID, sn 466248 made in 1940, is one of the “survivors”. Exceptionally well balanced and weighing 6 1/2lbs., this gun retains most all of its factory finishes and has not been altered from its original shipping configuration. Even a Field Grade gun can be “investment quality” and this one with all of the condition is just that; a great bird and clays gun that will gain value as you enjoy its use.

There are few factory original, high condition guns you can buy in 16ga. for less than $2000. This Ithaca represents a great value and a very affordable way to get into a classic vintage American double shotgun with lots of condition. Many field grade guns feel clunky in hand and are barrel heavy. This gun is very delightful in it handling dynamics. It is a good gun for the field or clays course, and a good investment as well.
There are more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. Please see my other fine Vintage Firearms on this website.
