HG2940 From its tour of duty with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department comes this very attractive Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece Stainless, numbered model 67, First Engineering Change. Its AJN Prefix, 4800 range serial number dates it to 1985; it came into service, then, during the tenures of two distinguished Californians, Sheriff Sherman Block and President Ronald Reagan. It was on duty, then, during the 1992 Riots. The Model 67 is 4 inch stainless, fully traditional with 4 inch serrated rib barrel with red ramp front sight and black leaf adjustable rear sight; Square butt grip frame serrated fore and aft; .265 Satin Stainless serrated trigger and matching .375 semi-target hammer; LASD issue Pachmayr SK-G Grips; six shot capacity of .38 Special and .38 Spl +P ammunition; 32 5/8 ounces weight empty. Action, of course, is traditional double- and single-action with internal transfer bar safety mechanism. LASO had this revolver on double action only, and we restored it to its original action. Surface detractions are moderate and inconspicuous, only occasional holster buffing. We rate it as Very Good finishwise, 80 to 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, only a faint impress that traverses about 60 percent of the top strap. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .005. Double action trigger pull is tight and consistent, and the hammer travels 5 degrees after the cylinder times on all six positions in double action. On single action, the hammer travels a full 25 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp 3 1/2 pounds.
