This is a 1906 Carl Gustaf Mod.96 Swedish rifle. All numbers match. There is no number on the cleaning rod so all number do match rather than the usual 96 without a matching cleaning rod. There is very slight wear on the blueing. This rifle has the rare configuration of no threads on the end of the barrel- a feature I tried to accomplish with my purchases. There is also a rare original Swedish site cover. They were usually taken off and lost. The barrel is bright and strong. The sling attached is original Swedish infantry. The wood is 100% original walnut. I have never seen a Swedish Mauser in this like new condition. I am selling my collection of 40 years or so and this is the best Swedish Mauser in that collection.
I purchased two of these 100% rifle in the early 90's when good quality rifles were available. I sold the other. When I acquired this rifle, I could not believe the beauty of the wood and its condition. When I took this rifle to the range, I was amazed at its accuracy and my friends could not believe its condition. I placed it in storage with other purchases of that period and now have it available for sale. Of all the gun shows I have attended I have never seen anything like this rifle. If you want more pics, please ask.
Of the military rifles produced for the WWI and WWII period, the Swedish Mauser is rare by comparison- 800,000 compared to @ 26 million Russian, 12 million U.S., 12 million German, 8 million English. As one author accurately predicted in his 1996 publication, "we will all be wondering where they all went in about 5 to 10 years". That time has come. In the past 10 years investing in military firearms has outpaced gold and none has figured out how to dig for more vintage military stuff.
