Here is a faithful replica of the first high capacity assault handgun to ever hit the battlefield, the LeMat revolver, designed by two brilliant New Orleans Arcadians, Dr. – Later Col. Jean LeMat; and his producer, General P.G.T. Beauregard. Only 2900 original percussion specimens were ever manufactured, in Philadelphia and Paris. The LeMat saw action during the War Between the States, most notably with General J.E.B. Stuart and his cavalrymen in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Specs are single action percussion revolver with hammer mounted selector to fire a 20 gauge shot load; Italian blue steel construction, with color casehardened hammer and trigger; cylinder capacity 9 rounds of .451 or .454 round ball plus the shot charge; 6 3/4 inch Octagonal barrel; cut checkered Italian Walnut grip panels; lanyard ring equipped grip frame; dovetailed pillar blade front sight with hammer notch rear sight; 5 7/8 inch .645 diameter smooth bore shot barrel. Loading lever swivels from the left side for easy storage and loss prevention. Overall length is 13 1/4 inches; and weight empty is 54 ounces. This specimen comes to us from a Florida collector who is retiring, moving to North Carolina, and liquidating his collection. He bought it new from our neighbors at Dixie Gun Works in 1997, the Year of Manufacture from its BI Italian Date Code. Surface detractions are negligible; this LeMat is in its original box with correct serial number, and it even comes in its original shipping carton from DGW with the original invoice, unopened Ox-Yoke Wonder Wads, and June 1997 USA Today packing newspaper. It has never been loaded or fired. We even cleaned some of the original grease off this LeMat. Replacement pricing on the LeMat is currently $1000 per unit or more.
