From duty on the front lines of the Cold War with the Federal German Police, the Bundespolizei, here is a very attractive Cold War piece manufactured in the Federal Republic of Germany, West Germany, in 1962. This pistol helped protect President Kennedy when he made his Berliner speech in 1963. Date is stamped on the right side of its slide, overstamped with the word Germany, but serial number range of 160000 is correct for 1962. It bears correct West German proof marks, and its only alien marking is the federally mandated import stamp, PW Arms, Redmond, WA, so marked on the right forward side of the slide. This is a lightweight, alloy-frame model P-38 in 9mm Luger, production of which began in 1956. Construction is durable semi-gloss anodized alloy frame with Federal Police armorer re-parkerized finish on its barrel, slide, and all its steel parts. Type is traditional double and single action semi-auto with full safety / decocking lever. The P-38 has a firing pin safety as well, but no magazine safety. Magazine is 8 round, 8 + 1 capacity, of 9mm Luger, Parabellum, 9x19 ammunition, call it what you will, THE 9mm. Barrel is 4 7/8 inches; and this specimen has been outfitted with a very nice white dot front sight. Weight empty is 28.2 ounces. Surface detractions are minimal, only very faint amounts of whitening on its sharp edges and light holster contact streaking. We rate this piece as Very Good, Reparkerized, since no more than 15 to 20 percent of its surfaces are affected by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent, and the West German Police always took good care of their firearms anyway. Own this fine Cold Warrior Walther P-38, the exact pistol in the photos, for only $ 329.00. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
