Description: HG2952 Here is an attractive, serviceable and thoroughly traditional S&W .38 Combat Masterpiece, numbered Model 15, Sixth Engineering change, that spent its entire career enforcing the law in South Louisiana. It came into service in 1991, from its BHM serial number prefix, under the Administration of the Honorable Gordon J. Martin, who served as Sheriff of St. James Parish, and spent a total of 40 years serving and protecting the good citizens of that jurisdiction. Barrel is 4 inch Heavy Barrel variant, with serrated ramp front sight and conventional square base windage and elevation adjustable rear sight. Capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special, interchangeably with +P ammunition; type is traditional double and single action with transfer bar internal safety device; and construction is entirely blue steel with Smith & Wesson K Frame Square Butt grip frame. Trigger and hammer are original .265 smooth face service trigger with matching serrated spur hammer. Grips are excellent factory issue Magna type service stocks, Goncalo Alves wood. Weight empty is 37 ounces. Surface detractions on this model 15-6 are only moderate. Principally, there is some inconspicuous scribing from the Department armorer on the right side edge of the barrel rib, with small occasional amounts of etchy residue along the upper right side of the frame and barrel, on the frame sides where one of the officers briefly used a set of Pachmayr grips with some edge weathering evidence, and here and there. We rate this 10-6 as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. This Model 15 is Excellent mechanically. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal, a shallow etchy groove that traverses 1/2 the width of the top strap as the photos show. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect .007; and these facts, coupled with the minimal blue wear to the ejector rod, indicates to us that this revolver has not undergone very much firing, certainly not with +P rounds. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent; hammer travels an additional 10 degrees on all six positions in double action after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 30 degrees on all six after timing. The single action trigger pull is a crisp and original 4 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal, about 1/2 mm by our estimate, both with the trigger relaxed and with the trigger fully depressed. Forward movement of the open cylinder on the yoke is about 4 mm by our estimate. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
