We get more Browning Take-Down Autos than we do their Remington Clones. This is the first 241 Remington we’ve had in a few years. It comes to us from a local estate, and it is remarkably well preserved in its original canvas case. This Remington’s date code is E H, manufactured in October of 1939. Surface detractions are minimal, given its age. Original finish is quite strong throughout. Buttstock has perhaps a dozen small streaks and scours, and the forend is similar, scouring on the wide areas of the forend but not many and not deep. Receiver has one small superficially pitted area on its upper left edge above the brand name. Barrel has one whitened scoured area on the left side at 4/5 o’clock area 4 inches forward of the forend. Otherwise detractions to the bluing are minimal, faint spotting here and there. We rate this 241 as a strong Very Good, with no more than 15-20 percent of its surfaces affected by age or wear. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
