This revolver is as near as we have come to offering a Ruger Speed Six or Service Six for several years. For most of the past decade, enamored with the Adjustable Sight GP-100 Revolvers, and justifiably so, we have ignored the Ruger GP-100 Service Revolvers with fixed sights that shoot, in every case we know of, point of aim from the box. This one's serial number prefix is 174, manufactured 2001. It has been carried and has extensive holster buffing and scouring that we estimate affects about 20 percent of the brushed stainless surface. It is excellent mechanically. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels a full 15 degrees after the cylinder times in all six positions. On single action, the hammer travels 30 degrees after timing on all six, and the single action trigger pull is a very tight but very crisp 6 pounds with negligible creep. Lateral movement of the cylinder is negligible with the trigger relaxed, and the cylinder does not move at all when the trigger is pulled all the way. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap is minimal, only a shallow streak with no significant depth that traverses about 2/3 of the width of the top strap, as the photos show. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. Note that the grip is original factory Ruger with walnut panels, smaller than the current issue Hogues.
