Description: Gunsmiths worthy of the name have always been in short supply everywhere, especially here in West Tennessee. One of the best ones ever was Mr. Rip Fanning, born Innes B. Fanning, 1898 – 1982, who was better known as a Professional Baseball Manager in the middle part of the 20th Century. Mr. Rip served as gunsmith for Anderson Sporting Goods in neighboring Lexington, Tennessee, from his retirement from baseball in the late 1950s until the early 1970s. His refinishing work was his strong suite, more durable and better looking than factory in many cases. Here is a plain old Nitro Type single shot that Mr. Rip made into a work of art some time in the 1960s for the Parker’s Crossroads cotton farmer whose sharecropping father bought it new before World War I. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch only, with a 32 inch barrel whose muzzle gauges .702 internal diameter. Buttstock and forend are both walnut, and the 14 1/4 inch pull buttstock is Rip Fanning custom made and cut checkered and excellent. Receiver is renickeled but with sharp logo lettering and minimal residue from its previous condition. Right side of receiver patent dates of 1900 and 1902 are still legible. The only surface detractions to the finish is a slight amount of scouring to the buttstock. Finishwise, we rate this Nitro Style Columbia Single Shot as Excellent Refinish, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Chamber and mechanism are smooth and excellent. Bore shows moderate pitting for about 12 inches forward of the chamber, but the front half of the bore is smooth and bright, and that is the crucial area anyway for throwing a tight pattern. Center of gravity is at the rear of the forend, where it’s supposed to be. This old shotgun was probably manufactured by Iver Johnson between 1905 and 1914. Serial number is 400 range. They don’t make them like this any more; in fact, they never did to begin with until Mr. Rip got hold of this fine old piece. We’re offering it for only $ 269.00.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $50 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground with full insurance coverage. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
