Fox Sterlingworth 20ga., 6LBS., GOOD DIMENSIONS, 50% CASE COLOR, TIGHT!
Here we have a 1934 Sterlingworth 20ga., serial number 265419, in great shape and ready for the upcoming bird season. These little guns are in hot demand and the prices have been climbing steadily. There are very few decent guns being offered for sale and there will be fewer as they get bought up and not offered up for sale again. Certainly the Fox 20ga. guns are the finest American double in the way of weight, balance, and reliability, hence the demand. There are still some beaters to be had, but decent original guns are the ones to invest in and enjoy their use as the value continues to climb. At 6lbs. 1oz. and balanced right on the hinge pin, this is a delightful little Fox.
The 28” number 3 weight barrels retain 95% factory blue with excellent bores, double ivory beads, choked M/F (.021/.033, can be altered to your specs for $70 per barrel), 2 ¾” chambers, .623 bore diameter both barrels, minimum wall thickness of 30 thousandths both barrels, ribs tight, no dents or major marks or scratches, extractors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, sharp clear lettering, a great set of barrels.
The action retains 50% factory case color, excellent screws, action tight with the lever waaay right of center, engraving clear, crisp double triggers, 85% niter blue on trigger guard, mechanically excellent in all ways.
The wood is in great shape with no splits, cracks, or repairs, good finish remaining with excellent checkering, excellent wood to metal fit all the way around, 14 ¼” LOP to butt plate, 2 ¾” drop at heel, 1 9/16” drop at comb for good modern dimensions (can be bent to your specs or a pad added for longer LOP within 10 days of purchase for a small added cost), all in good shape and ready for decades of service.
When it comes to great upland bird guns or a nice collectible double to shoot those vintage side by side events, the Fox Sterlingworth is still a very affordable shotgun, especially when compared to the Parker guns that commonly weigh ¼-1/2 pound more than the Fox. In fact, most all of the vintage American doubles in 20 gauge exceed 6 1/4lbs. With mechanical excellence and simplicity, smaller receiver, and better handling dynamics it is my opinion the Fox is consistently the better gun. This is a gun you can shoot and enjoy while it continues to increase in value. Buy this one now before the fall rush when prices are highest and before there are no good choices left!
There are more photos upon request. THERE IS A 30 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY ON THIS GUN. Please see my other fine Vintage Firearms on this website.
