Argentine Model 1909 bolt-action rifle. Caliber 7.65x53mm (7.65 Mauser). Serial number C5978. Produced by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken Berlin, better known as DWM, in Germany in 1909 as indicated by the receiver. The left side of the receiver ring displays the following wording “MAUSER MODELO ARGENTINO 1909.” and the left side of the receiver shows the legend “DEUTSCHE WAFFEN – UND MUITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN”. NO IMPORT MARKS. The rifle is all matching (receiver, bolt, trigger guard, stock) except for the cleaning rod which is three (3) numbers off (there are no numbers stamped on any of the remaining parts, which is correct for this model). All serial numbers are factory original and were not re-stamped. Fixed front sight. Ramp and left rear sight calibrated from 300 to 2000 meters. Correct style, straight bolt handle. The metal retains approximately 95% of its original deep pre-war blued metal finish and was never refurbished by Argentine arsenals. The balance of the small parts also retain their delicate “fire blued” metal finish. The receiver has the correct polished “in the white” steel finish and the Argentine national crest on the top of the receiver ring has been scrubbed. The bolt, buttplate, and cleaning rod also have the correct polished “in the white” steel finish. The rifle has a mint bore with strong shiny rifling and is in mechanically excellent condition with an action that is strong and smooth. The original walnut wood furniture is nice and solid with no cracks and shows the usual marks, dings, and minor scratches from years of handling and storage. The right side of the buttstock displays an Argentinian cartouche. The same cartouche, but in smaller scale, is stamped on the handguard. Several smaller Argentinian proof marks are also present on the wood and metal and are clearly visible. The rifle was manufactured without the finger groove in the forestock and has a new style bolt release lever which also doubles as a charger guide (correct for M.1909 rifles) and hinged magazine cover (also correct for M.1909 rifles). Comes with an Argentine Model 1909 bayonet, measuring 20 ½” long, and its original matching all steel scabbard with leather belt frog in very good condition. The bayonet was manufactured by “D.G.F.M.” (Direccion General de Fabricciones Militares) “F.M.A.P.” (Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles) in Argentina and the blade is so marked. It is also stamped “Sable Bayoneta” “MAUSER” “Mod.-1909”. A sharp clear Argentine national crest is also stamped on the blade. The original wood grips are nice and solid with a good tight fit and have the usual marks, dings, and minor scratches from years of handling and storage. The lock button functions perfectly and the hilt shows some patina.
