It is to Sig Arms's credit that the exclusive owner of this pistol bought it in the first place. Para Ordnance pistols have always been smoothly finished, and smooth-operating. It was no surprise to us that the owner of this pistol traded it back in for a Sig 229; the fact that he kept it for almost a year attests its quality. This No disrespect at all intended toward the talented Brazilian Gunsmiths who roll out a steady diet of fine 1911 pistols with Taurus, Springfield, and other notable names on them, or even toward the excellent Filipino pistols on the market. We like them, but we like our neighbor Canadians' products better. Here is Para-Ordnance's contribution to the utilitarian 1911 Government Type Pistol market, their GI Expert. In many respects, it is plain old Mil-Spec, with its black matte finish, standard safety and grip safety, and black rubber PO logo grips. Note, however, its skeletonized Commander Hammer, flat mainspring housing, 7 groove serrated ported metal trigger, and reaily visible three dot sights. Unlike many of its Brazilian Competitors, it comes with two Stainless Para-Ordnance magazines. And Para-Ordnance's glassy smooth finish, even in a plain utilitarian black matte finish, rivals any Colt or Kimber on the market today. Action is conventional Government Type Single Action only. Weight empty is a standard steel frame 40 ounces; and the main safety and grip safety are supplemented by a Series 80 style firing pin block safety, designed to guard against accidental discharge if the pistol is dropped with a round in its chamber. This Para shows miniamal surface wear, only faint amounts of whitening on the muzzle edges of the slide. We rate it as Excellent, and photos should confirm us on that. It is certainly excellent mechanically, and accurate; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. It has been fired fewer than 200 rounds.
