Serial number on this Smith & Wesson .22 LR Escort is B219xx, part of the most abundant change run in the first year of production, 1970. This specimen is part of the second mechanical change run from that first year; it has both the barrel nut and the magazine safety. This Model 61-2 is in its original box with its blue zipper case and instruction manual. We rate it as excellent, with 90 to 95 percent of its finish intact; photos, however, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. There is light to moderate scuffing or scratching on the lower edge of the muzzle area and on the right side front strap of the grip frame. Sharp edges have other, negligible, edge whitening showing. We are at a loss to explain the rough surfaces of the trigger sides, but note that the trigger’s finger flat area is smooth milled. Bore, chamber, magazine, and mechanism are all excellent.
