From a local West Tennessee collection comes this most attractive Remington 11-87 Premier® Shotgun chambered in 20 gauge. From its E Z barrel date code, it left the manufacturer in Ilion, New York in October of 2005, next to last year of production for the series produced only from 1999 until 2006. Type is pressure compensated, gas operated semi automatic field shotgun. Construction is blued steel barrel, receiver, and critical parts with chrome plated steel bolt and gloss finish polymer trigger group housing. Note the 3/4 coverage factory engraving on the receiver laterals. Stock and forend are cut checkered semi RKW glossy finish American Walnut with factory rubber buttpad, and black polymer liner and pistol grip cap. Barrel is factory threaded 26 inch Vent Rib, with a total of 3 Rem-choke tubes: .590 Full; .590 Modified; and .613 Skeet. All three tubes will accommodate steel or lead shot, and the full tube is so marked. Outside barrel diameter is .765 at the mag cap. Sight system is 11 post, .325 serrated top ventilated rib, .233 high at the middle, with Ivory colored steel housing front sight, and stainless middle bead for a figure 8 sight picture. Chambering is 20 gauge, 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably. Since the 11-87 is Not back bored, it is suitable for anything from steel shot to lead magnums to rifled slugs. Magazine is stainless steel, conventionally threaded with friction spring retainer and capable of taking an extension without modification. Capacity is 4 rounds of 2 3/4 inch or 3 rounds of 3 inch magnum 20 gauge shells, so 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity on 2 3/4 inch with the included green two shot adapter or plug removed. Smooth face gold plated steel .225 trigger pulls at a two stage 3 1/2 pounds with moderate felt creep and overtravel. Buttstock is standard field type for right hand shooter, 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb and 2 1/2 inch at the butt. Right hand cant is over 1 inch, so this will not be a southpaw friendly shotgun. Neither is it a youth shotgun: length of pull is 13 7/8 inches, from the trigger face to the end of the factory 3/4 inch recoil pad and spacer. Safety is right hand shooter type, behind the trigger, with keyed lock feature. Weight empty is 7 pounds 2 ounces with center of gravity at the bolt operation handle. Overall length is 45 3/4 inches. Surface detractions are minimal on this shotgun, no more than a half dozen small contact mars on the buttstock, only one of which penetrates the finish. We rate this 1187 as Excellent, 95 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, gas port, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From the negligible amount of shell contact streaking to the center of the shell carrier, we estimate it was loaded fewer than 10 shells, and possibly unfired. This shotgun is extremely attractive and collectable. Replacement pricing on the nearest variants still in production is in the $1,000 range.
