The ZiP pistol is a radical departure for US Fire Arms, which built its reputation making excellent reproductions of Colt SAA “cowboy” revolovers, in Colt's old factory no less. The ZiP design is like no other pistol on the market today. Built almost exclusively of polymer except for the barrel, chamber, and a few internal parts, and using a slide-less “bull pup” design which puts the magazine into the frame up and behind the trigger, the ZiP is truly unique. Chambered in 22LR and weighing less than 1 lb, the ZIP pistol is great for the back country, fitting easily in a backpack or any other mode of transport as an emergency light survival gun. Innovative features abound on the ZiP. The pistol itself is only 7 1/2” long, 5 1/4” of which is barrel, courtesy of the bull pup design. The gun can be completely disassembled with a 3/32” Allen wrench and barrel wrench (thoughtfully built into the top rail), uses ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 rotary mags (not included), and can mount virtually any optical accessory using one of several add-on top-rail kits. Additionally, the ZiP has no moving slide and a new linear trigger / striker system that maximizes control. This ZiP pistol is built on a sturdy black wear-resistant polymer frame with the standard sight rail installed. The basic blowback system and fixed barrel make for a simple, rugged and accurate pistol. The 5.25” barrel has a polymer sheath, vented for cooling. The removable top rail has a view port for the cocking indicator, and mounts basic blade and notch sights. Additional top plates, such as a night-sight rail and a Picatinny rail, are available as accessories from the manufacturer. The internal ZiP-Action has numerous internal safeties, an external cross-bolt manual safety, and a unique linear trigger / striker system that simplifies design and greatly reduces the number of moving parts. Forward operating rods open the action or, alternatively, provide “restrike” capability if a round does not fire (not uncommon given the widely varying quaility of .22 LR ammo). Operation is completely ambidextrous. (Safety Note: Manipulating the operating or restrike rods places the fingers close to the muzzle of the weapon. Extreme care should be used and all gun safety rules strictly followed). The ZiP uses standard Ruger 10/22 Rotary mags (not supplied). The mag release is at the heel of the frame. A short length of Picatinny rail is molded into the front of the frame on the bottom. The pistol comes with two sets of springs, one for “high-velocity” .22 LR ammo, and one for standard velocity target ammo. This pistol is entirely US made, and the overall workmanship is excellent.
