Here is one of the best pistols ever built, unquestionably the leader in state-of-the-art production for its day, a genuine German made Heckler & Koch P7 Squeeze-Cocker, earlier PSP variant that is surplus from the West German Federal Bureau of Military Technical Procurement, BWB for its German characters. Date code on the magazine is IA for 1980, and the serial number is 388xx; but we cannot make out the code under the Federal German proof mark. It appears to date from about the same year as the magazine date. 1986 was the final year of production. This pistol is happily import marked from Heckler and Koch in Trussville, AL, so there is no conflict in importer versus manufacturer markings. This P-7 comes in an original issue box with P7.B-Grade text included on the label. It has a total of only one magazine, but has its instruction manual. We rate this specimen as Very Good, its only detractions being light to moderate service wear on the sharp edges and on the frame backstrap area. Raised rib pebble-grained grips are excellent. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are also excellent on this pistol. This is, of course, a single action mechanism that has a frame-mounted cocking mechanism. This also serves as a safety, since the pistol will not fire unless the operator has a firm grip on the frame; and there is an internal firing pin block mechanism that operates off a trigger sear. This pistol’s unique mechanism has a gas-regulated recoil and return system, for optimal handling qualities during protracted combat shooting sessions; the difference, however, between the PSP and the later P7-M8 is that this earlier variant does not have a heat shield and non-gloved shooters will eventually experience felt heat on the trigger guard and upper forward grip frame area. Barrel length is 4 inches, with the distinctive H&K Polygonal bore that insures easier cleaning, increased velocity, and superior accuracy. Sights are ivory bead three dot. Magazine capacity is 7 round, plus one in the chamber for a maximum loaded capacity of 8 rounds of 9mm Parabellum. Weight is 30.5 ounces empty.
