German P.08 Luger "Death's Head" Rework Pistol Guns > Pistols > Luger Pistols

German P.08 Luger "Death's Head" Rework Pistol, serial # 651 g, cal. 9mm, 4" barrel with an excellent bore, this rare pistol built on an Artillery frame and receiver that has a small relief cut on the front of the chamber for the original tangent rear sight, pistol currently has an unnumbered "crown/N" proofed barrel with nominal "8,8m/m" bore diameter marking but remaining small parts are all numbered to the gun, chamber is dated 1917 and has the distinctive "Totenkopf" emblem of a skull with single bone surmounted by a lazy-S and the metal retains 85% plus of the original blue which has faded to dull gray along the high points and edges with a slightly lighter shade of blue on the replaced barrel, the trigger, safety, magazine catch, takedown lever, and ejector retain about 70-80% straw color with the balance turned bright gray, interestingly the original matching numbered Artillery toggle was retained on the pistol which now has no rear sight, in his book "Lugers at Random", Charles Kenyon Jr. illustrates a Death's Head Luger which is nearly identical to this pistol built on a 1917 dated Artillery frame and receiver but with a modified toggle that includes a rear sight (even though the rear sight relief cut at the chamber is plainly visible in the photograph no mention is made of it at all in the write-up) the checkered wooden grips are numbered to the gun and have some light wear with flattening of the points as well as a small chip missing from the top rear of the left side panel under the safety lever, a single matching wooden base magazine is included with the pistol, these pistols are thought to be early SS issue guns and surviving examples are rare, this example in very good plus condition would make a nice complement to a World War II era Luger collection.
