From a local estate comes this very attractive Standard Weight Remington Model 1100 shotgun chambered in 20 gauge. This specimen represents the original configuration of the 20 gauge 1100; and its C U date code identifies it as part of the final year’s production of the Standard Weight, April of 1971. This one tips the scales at 7 pounds 10 ounces, while the current production variants are closer to an even 7 pounds. The Standard Weight, then, was manufactured only from 1965 until 1971, according to Fjiestad’s records. Other specs on this shotgun are gas operated semi-auto shotgun, 2 3/4 inch Chamber; 4 + 1 capacity; 28 inch Ventilated Rib barrel with .597 muzzle Full Choke; Du Pont RKW glossy finish American Walnut buttstock and forend; length of pull 13 7/8 inches and overall length 48 inches with center of gravity directly beneath the operating handle. Surface detractions on this 1100 are minimal; fewer than a half dozen light scours on the forend, none of which penetrate the finish, minimal spotting in the blued surfaces; and no weathering at all around the white buttplate spacer. Shell contact streaking on the under side of the shell carrier is minimal. We rate this 1100 as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From its condition and from our knowledge of its late owner, we estimate this 1100 has been fired fewer than 100 times in the past 40 years. This is, of course, the most pleasant shooting shotgun a person can buy. Its heavier weight combines with its gas operation system for negligible felt recoil.
