I am convinced that this will probably be the round that will become the new standard issue military round for American Military Rifles. As good as the 6.5 Grendal is, this round has developed a serious following among American sportsman. The 6.8 mm Remington SPC . is a rifle cartridge that was developed by Remington Arms with collaboration from individual members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and United States Special Operations Command as a possible replacement for the 5.56 NATO cartridge in a Short Barreled Rifle/Carbine. Based upon the .30 Remington cartridge, it is midway between the 5.56×45mm NATO and 7.62×51mm NATO in bore diameter and velocity. It uses a .277 (7.036mm) diameter bullet, which is the same diameter bullet as the venerable hunting cartridge .270 Winchester uses. It is particularly adaptable to current 5.56 mm NATO firearms, the cartridge overall length being comparable. It may very well become the next standard cartridge for the U. S. military given its development in conjunction SOC and the Army Marksman Unit, as well as its increasing popularity with sportsmen.
The advantages of this round are:
• The 6.8mm SPC has superior terminal performance when compared to similar intermediate cartridge calibers, delivering significantly more weight down range.
• Nearly 50% higher energy than 5.56mm in short-barrel AR’s. Because the cartridge length of the 6.8mm SPC is the same as the 5.56mm, the weapon systems are nearly identical, yet the 6.8mm SPC’s energy delivery is nearly double.
• Extensive variety of projectiles for military and law enforcement operations to meet a variety of needs.
• 6.8mm SPC can be used for hunting popular game, where 5.56mm cannot.
• Available Jacketed Frangible projectiles avoid over-penetration.
• Several 6.8mm SPC rounds meet barrier blind standards for FBI.
• 6.8mm SPC OTM round has excellent fragmentation that meets US military requirements.
No longer made, this rifle was manufactured in Southport, Conn. USA by Ruger in 6.8 REM Special. Like the Mini 14, it is a Semi-automatic Rifle with a Barrel Length of 18" The Length of Pull is 13 1/8"
Stock is a black synthetic while the barrel finish is Matte Stainless Steel. The rifling and bore appear to be in new, unfired condition. I was told that it has never been fired but I cannot swear to that so I am listing it as used. Nevertheless, this rifle is like new – no noticeable cosmetic issues and it includes the Box & Accessories
Purchase includes factory box and paperwork along with the lock, a 5 round factory magazine, four 10 round Pro-mag magazines, a gun lock and scope rings, nylon sling and a Tasco World Class 3-9x40 scope. For ease of shipping I am going to remove the scope. --- Shipping on this rifle will be $40 which will include insurance. If you FFL dealer requires shipment from another FFL dealer I will have to require an additional $30.00 to cover that cost.
I prefer Postal Money Orders but I will take a Cashier's Check or Personal Check but will not ship for ten (10) days until the check has cleared.
