This one is tricked out with a Pachmayr Tac-Star Steel Magazine Extension and Extension Brace. Finish on the shotgun proper is factory bead blast Parkerized, practically as weather-resistant as the 870 Marine, but with practically no potential for glare in any lighting condition. These are factory equipped with DuPont graphite based synthetic stocks that have the Remington R3 Recoil pad that reduces felt recoil, the factory says, by 30 percent. Forend is also graphite-based synthetic, and comes with the classic Police Pump corncob serrations for all weather and all-manner-of-stress easy operation. Weight empty is 7 1/4 pounds; overall length is 38 1/2 inches; barrel is 18 inch Improved Cylinder. Action, of course, is pump or slide action, and the tried-and-true 870 has double steel slide operation bars that help this shotgun retain its reputation as the most failsafe shotgun on the market. Capacity is 4 + 1 shells in 2 3/4 inch length or 3 + 1 three inch shells. One inconspicuous but important difference between the 870 P, like this one, and the 870 Express, is that the 870 P has the traditional detent ball on the barrel lug, and magazine extensions can be added and removed without modifying the magazine tube in any way.
