Like its USP predecessor, HK P30's are are easy to shoot and maintain. The P30 is the latest update in the long running USP series, which was the first HK line built for the US market, including many features specified by U.S. law enforcement and military. Common to all models is a polygonal bore, a fiber reinforced polymer frame, and a specially designed nested mechanical recoil system, providing excellent control and long service life. On top of this, the P30 design adds numerous ergo enhancements to the line, including fully ambidextrous controls and interchangeable back straps and lateral grip plates to “right size” the pistol to any hand. The HK P30 is a reliable, safe, and accurate pistol, blending the best combat features of modern high capacity double action pistols. The list of desirable features is long. The slide is machined from one piece of steel and finished off with a corrosion resistant “hostile environment” treatment. The frame is corrosion-proof, fiber-reinforced polymer with interchangeable backstrap inserts and lateral plates to size the gun to any hand via Small, Medium (installed), and Large inserts. A Milspec 1913 (Picatinny) rail for mounting accessories is molded into the frame. The bore is polygonally rifled for increased muzzle velocity, easier cleaning, and longer life, and recoil is moderated by HK's patented nested and buffered recoil system. Automatic internal hammer and firing pin interlocks make the gun extremely safe although there is no external manual safety or dockocker on the LEM model, which is also outfitted with a snag-resistant bobbed hammer. Built into the P30 is a manual lock-out safety system, which completely disables the action for storage.
Perhaps this pistol's best feature is the LEM (Law Enforcement Modification) trigger, originally defined in a federal Dept of Homeland Security contract. The LEM trigger allows for faster initial and follow-up shots than a standard DAO system, due to a smooth and light trigger pull (approximately 7.5 lbs) and short trigger reset. The LEM system pre-cocks the hammer when the slide is cycled to chamber a round, resulting in a much lighter, consistent, and responsive trigger. Furthermore, the LEM system does not require an additional manual safety. What this arrangement means is that the trigger is the only control to worry about when you have to shoot in a hurry, and it works the same way every time with the same light pull. Unlike Glocks, this system also allows double strike capability and intermediate trigger staging. The only other controls are ambidextrous mag releases and slide catches. Two 15-round high-cap HK hi-cap mags are included. Made to exacting specifications in Germany by Heckler & Koch GmbH, the workmanship on this gun is outstanding. Don't pass it up!
Built in 2010 ("BA" date code), this gun was purchased new by its one and only owner, who traded it to fund other projects. Function tested with only with 2 boxes of factory range ammo (100 rounds --no reported issues) before being put in storage, overall condition is Excellent, estimated at 99% +. The near mint condition and cleanliness of this weapon testify to the low-use claim. Bore and action are immaculate, and the finish is remarkably free of handling marks. The only condition points noted are some expected but light firing wear on the magazine followers and some almost non-existant burnishing on the barrel muzzle at the lock up point with the slide.
