This is a Remington Berthier (Originally was the 1907-15 Mannlicher-Berthier rifle, officially adopted by the French in 1915) in 8mm X 50 (8mm Lebel) with bayonet.
Here's what I could find out: "...Berthier rifles were manufactured by Manufactures d’armes de St. Étienne, Manufactures d’armes de Chatellerault, Remington Repeating Arms, Établissement Continsouza and Établissement Delauney Belleville...Only a few thousand Remington made rifles were ever delivered to France... The remainder of the contract was never delivered and most Remingtons never left the USA...a majority of the weapons made were sold after WWI to the American public through the DCM, the predecessor of the CMP.... PriviPartizan made 8x50Rmm "Lebel", which will work fine in these weapons...". This gun has no serial number, as contract guns were not serialized until accepted by the French military, which this gun was not.
This rifle is near mint, with only some storage marks in the stock finish. The only metal wear is where the bayonet has been fitted and removed. It has been in storage since the early 1950's by the same owner whose dad bought the gun sometime earlier, and never shot it. The bore is perfect and the bayonet still has grease on it - not yet dried. This is a pristine example of WWI French firepower! We take VISA or MasterCard for an additional 4% fee. We will also trade for U.S. silver and gold coins at spot value.
