Parker PH 16ga. “O” FRAME, 30” BARRELS, MADE 1892, MODERN DIMENSIONS
There are still some real treasures to be found out there and this is one of them. Those that know Parker shotguns are aware that the 16ga. gun built on the 20 gauge frame, or “O” frame, is a very hard to find and desirable gun for your upland and clay target pleasures. This fine antique, serial number 72907, was made in 1892 and can be shipped right to your doorstep, no dealer required. It is in remarkable condition with the “fish tail” top lever, 30” Twist Steel barrels that retain 99% pattern, excellent bores, ORIGINAL stock with modern shooting dimensions. This delightful Parker with long barrels is a joy in hand and will give the new owner decades of trouble free use. With these desirable features, excellent condition, and great balance it is a great investment that will continue to grow in value as you enjoy its use.
The 30” barrels have mirror bores choked M/F (.020/.025, can be altered for $70 per barrel), bore diameter of .666/.667, minimum barrel wall thickness of 35 thou, no pits or scratches, 99% pattern showing, 2 ½” chambers (chambers can be lengthened to 2 ¾” with lengthened forcing cones for $150 but not required to do so to shoot appropriate 2 ¾” ammo. If you don’t know why, ask), ribs are tight and barrels ring true, extractors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge like a new gun, all in excellent condition.
The action is tight with 30% factory case color, clear sharp engraving, double triggers with excellent pulls, excellent screws, trigger guard is grey, fish tail style top lever (cool feature!), mechanically excellent in all ways. The PH GRADE is the first grade with a moderate amount of nice scroll engraving.
The well figured wood is original to the gun and nicely restored with excellent checkering, no splits, cracks, or repairs, excellent wood to metal fit all the way around. What is very fortunate is that the dimensions are very unusual and modern from the factory, with 14 ¼” LOP to the original dogs head butt plate, 2 ¼” drop at heel, 1 3/8” drop at comb, neutral cast. You would expect a lot of drop at heel with a gun from this era.
There were only about 1500 PH Grade 16 gauge guns produced with less than 500 or so with 30” barrels. There were damn few built on the 20ga. “O” frame. When combining the modern dimensions, excellent condition, graceful 30” barrels, you will find this to be a very desirable shotgun. The gun weighs 6lbs. 9oz. and balances ¼” ahead of the hinge pin for that “oh so sweet” Parker balance and feel. If you ever wanted a nice, naturally worn small bore Parker 16 for your shooting/investing pleasure this is the one!
