Resemblance to the renowned Benelli Black Eagle is no accident with this Beretta Pintail Automatic. Just like its Italian Competitor, the receiver and barrel separate into three main parts groups, so maintenance and storage is a breeze on this shotgun. This specimen of the Pintail happens to be dated on its receiver, 05/03, May of 2003, next to its Italian and Spanish proof marks. Barrel is stamped Made in Italy, and receiver is stamped Made in Spain. Finish is matte blue on the steel barrel and upper receiver, and matte anodized finish on the alloy lower receiver. Bolt and shell carrier are hard chrome. Buttstock and forend are cut checkered European walnut with satin finish. This shotgun has the same inertia operation system as its Benelli counterpart, and as the 1200 series Tactical Shotguns. Capacity is 4 + 1 rounds on 2 3/4 inch shells, or 3 + 1 on 3 inch shells. Barrel is equipped with serrated ramp, brass tipped blade type front sight and windage and elevation adjustable compact rear sight. Muzzle is threaded to accept any Beretta or Benelli thread choke tubes, and this Pintail still has its 3 original choke tubes, Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full. Barrel length is 24 inches, chambered for both 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells. Weight empty is 6 pounds 13 ounces, with center of gravity directly beneath the center of the closed bolt. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches from the center of the white anotized smooth faced trigger to the end of the Beretta Logo buttplate; overall length is 44 3/4 inches. This shotgun comes to us from a local estate, whose owner used it only once or twice on deer hunting expeditions to Southern Illinois. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint edge whitening at places and with a few small scours to the walnut finish. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent or better vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From the absence of any visible shell contact buffing to the shell carrier floorplate, and from our knowledge of its late owner, this shotgun has been fired fewer than 50 times.
