Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Factory number is 62151. This particular 835 comes with one detachable cheek piece for its stock. Type is pump or slide action shotgun. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, and parts, built into a light weight alloy receiver with polymer trigger housing, forend, and buttstock. Chambering is for 12 gauge shells, from 3 1/2 inch Magnums to 3 inch, to 2 3/4 inch shells interchangeably. Since this shotgun’s barrel has a 10 gauge sized internal bore, it is NOT designed for slugs. Buckshot is just fine, though, as our Mississippi neighbors attest. Barrel is 28 inch back bored with 16 ports arrayed near the muzzle for felt recoil reduction. Choke system is Mossberg Accu-Mag®, and it is furnished with its original factory tube installed, .745 vicinity Modified. Accu-Mag thread tubes are available throughout the country. Sight system is 12 Post .375 wide serrated top Ventilated Rib, with steel supported high visibility Tru-Glow Tru Bead Orange and Green Fiber Optic Sight. Receiver is drilled for a Weaver #88 or 417 four screw base or similar rail. Capacity is 5+1 on 2 3/4 inch, and 3+1 on 3 1/2 inch and 3 inch shells. Since the barrel’s lug fits over the magazine and the cap secures with a detent, magazine extensions are easily installed, and we do it frequently ourselves. Safety is classic Mossberg top tang style; and the .290 smooth faced blue steel trigger pulls at 5 pound vicinity with minimal felt creep. Length of pull is 14 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 7/8 inch black factory recoil pad. Weight empty is 7 pounds 15 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. This variant’s buttstock contains the Mathews Harmonic Damper® system that dramatically reduces felt recoil. It comes with a standard Mathews cheek piece, and raised pieces are readily available for optics users. Drop at heel is the usual 2 1/2 inches, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant, so the 835 is not southpaw friendly. Mag cap is threaded for a sling stud, and buttstock has a QD swivel eyelet. Finish is Realtree Advantage Max 5 Camo, with the exception of cheekpiece, damper body, shell carrier, bolt, safety, trigger, and trigger guard that are matte finish. This 835 comes to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. It served light duty, likely with a sales rep or writer. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint occasional surface streaking or edge whitening. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate it has been fired no more than 50 times, if at all.
