I purchased this rifle together with another Mod. 41, during the 90s when pristine Swedish Mausers were available. I have been buying Mod. 96 & 38 rifles from an East Coast importer when he called and said he had a lot of about 6 Mod. 41 rifles in a shipment. None had scopes and two had not been drilled for a scope. I purchased the two that had not been drilled to give me the option to find a WWII scope or use a modern mount & scope. I have done neither over the years and sold the other 41 last year for a price greater than I'm asking here because two minor parts do not match- sight base and ejector box.
Between 1941 and 1943, only 5,300 new condition Mod. 96 rifles were selected for conversion to the Mod. 41 sniper rifle. If the barrel did not gauge perfect it was replaced. The bolt handles were bent to accommodate a scope. There were two versions- Mod. 41 and Mod. 41B. This version is the early Mod. 41, as it has the early standard adjustable 300-2000 meters sight base with a number that matches the receiver.
This beautiful rifle was manufactured by Carl Gustaf in 1905. All the numbers match except the sight base & ejector box. The initials "K.B." on the left side of the receiver indicating that the inspector was Konrad August Berglund 1902-1905. The bluing is near perfect. I would characterize this rifle as NRA Excellent. There is slight handling wear on the stock. The stock is light hard wood without dents or gouges. If you request more pics please send email address.
The disk on the right side of the stock contains markings consistent with the effort of the armory for conversion to a Mod. 41. The small wedge of the disk has a strike at "1" indicating that the bore is like new. On the large portion of the disk there is a mark adjacent to "0" indicating no bore erosion. There is no mark "over Slag" indicating that this rifle was tested at the armory as being right on target or needing no adjustment for hold on a 300m target.
