Ruger came a little late to the polymer framed handgun market, but they got it right. Here is Ruger’s slickest made 9mm pistol ever, the service size variant of the SR-9 series. Manufacturer is Sturm, Ruger & Co., Prescott Arizona plant. Type is striker fired semi automatic pistol. Construction is stainless steel slide and barrel, and steel internal parts assembled into a glass filled, steel reinforced polymer frame. Chambering is 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9x19, call it what you will, THE 9mm. Unlike its chief competitor Glock 19, the Ruger follows its heritage and will fire any ammunition from steel case Russian to lead bullet reloads to +P Cor-bons. Barrel is 4.1 inch stainless, right hand six groove 1:10 conventional rifling. Slide is brushed, serated laterals, matte upper stainless. Sight system is dovetailed front and rear; dot front with low profile combat rear that is windage and elevation adjustable without compromising its low profile. Frame incorporates a single slot picatinny rail system for light mounting; and its mainspring housing / backstrap is reversible to change the grip contour. This pistol comes with a total of two magazines and loading tool. Both magazines are steel bodied, with steel springs, polymer cartridge followers, and flush fit flat floorplates. Each magazine holds 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition, so 17+1 fully loaded capacity. Safety system is low profile ambidextrous frame mounted lever type, with a much lower profile than its only competitor, Smith & Wesson’s M&P 9 safety variant. Extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator, and the trigger bar lock, Firing pin safety, and trigger safety round out the safety system. Trigger is .350 polymer with center lever, pulls at a smooth 5 pound vicinity with 1 inch of travel. The Ruger SR9, writes the factory, is sized to be comfortable and controllable with a slim, ergonomic grip and a narrow slide. The structurally rigid, recoil-reducing, glass-filled nylon frame and alloy or stainless steel slide combine to create a low-maintenance, rugged, and reliable handgun. The SR9 features a modern blocker, trigger safety, magazine disconnect, and a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator. In addition, the SR9 has a unique reversible backstrap (flat or arched), an adjustable 3-dot sight system, an ambidextrous 1911-style manual safety and magazine release, and a built-in Picatinny rail. The SR9 weighs in at 26.5 oz. Overall length is 7.5 inches from the muzzle to the end of the grip frame butt; height is 5.5 inches from the top of the rear sight to the bottom of the magazine floorplate. Thickness is only 1.27 inches across the safety levers. Each SR9 comes in its factory hard shell case with instruction manual, NRA Membership application, factory registration card, protective papers, massive padlock, magazine loading tool, and total of two (2) factory magazines. Replacement pricing on this pistol is upwards of $500 in our area, if a person can even find one. We’re offering the SR-9 in the photos, however, or one of its identical mates for only $ 359.00.
