Description: Fred Adolph 16ga. BEST BOXLOCK - RARE AMERICAN, GENOA NEW YORK

Fred Adolph was a German trained gunmaker who took up residence in Genoa, New York at the turn of the 20th century. Known as a gun maker to royalty, Presidents, movie stars, and other "rich and famous", relatively few are aware of his work. This gun, serial number 2016, will give you an idea of how he got his reputation of producing ultra-fine guns. A delicately balanced, eminently shootable, example of an investment grade firearm, it is a gun anyone would be proud to own and carry afield or to the gun club for a round of clays. Fred Adolph guns are very rare and desirable. It is unlikely he ever made two alike, each one a work of art.

The 26" Krupp Fluid Steel barrels retain 95% factory blue, great bores, 2 3/4" chambers, deep chiseled barrel wedge of engraving, clear sharp lettering, choked F/IM (.038/.032, can be altered to your specs for $80 per barrel), internal bore diameter of .672/.673 minimum barrel wall thickness 31 thou right, 32 thou left, light handling marks, tight ribs, no dents, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, a great set of barrels.

The action is built on what looks like a Sauer & Sohns scalloped back box lock design, with 4 separate lock-ups; a double under lug bite locking bolts, Greener style cross bolt, and side clips. The receiver is intricately engraved in full coverage deep relief game scene and floral style engraving, excellent screws, sculpted reinforcing bolsters on bottom of action, cocking indicators, gold triggers with crisp 4 1/2lb. pulls, beautifully engraved trigger guard, action tight with lever right of center, all expertly and elegantly executed by a true master.

The wood is figured European walnut with excellent oil finish, elaborate carvings, fine sharp checkering, and highly decorative steel grip cap and butt plate intricately engraved commensurate with the receiver, The wood carvings are stunning, obviously executed by the same hand as the engraving and none other than Fred Adolph himself. With a LOP of 14", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 1/2", and neutral cast, no deep marks or dings, the gun has good shooting dimensions. Stock can be bent to your specs within 10 days of purchase for about $180. The forend is equally as elegant, with a black horn forend tip showing a slight schnabel at the end. At a glance you can see this gun is something special.

The gun weighs 6lbs. 5oz. and is in excellent mechanical/visual condition. Most remember Jack Puglisi as a world class collector of fine firearms. He saw the gun and told me about a few Adolphs that he had owned. He commented they were amongst the finest guns ever produced in America and he had a special fondness for them. For the shooter or collector this gun is an investment grade gun and a very special addition to anyone's collection interested in rare and unusual examples of the gunmaker's art.

There are more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. Please see our other fine Vintage Firearms on this website.
