Here is the resurrected descendant of the Kimel Kamper .410 gauge Folding Shotgun. This is the Kamper’s Turkish made descendant, the Hatfield SGL. Manufacturer is Torun Silah Sanayi Ltd. of Konya, Republic of Turkey. Importer and warrantor is UTAS-USA of Des Plaines, Illinois. Original Italian manufacturer, and tool producer for this shotgun, was Investarm S.P.A., of Marcheno, Italy. Investarms still manufactures this shotgun as its M70, if one visits Northern Italy. Type is breech loading, folding, external hammer single shot shotgun. Construction, except for the alloy trigger guard, is entirely steel metal with Turkish Walnut stock and forend. Chambering is .410 gauge, 2 3/4 inch or 3 inch shells interchangeably. Barrel is two piece, 20 inch with flat ground .403 modified choke muzzle and single piece extractor. Sights are plain brass bead front, with receiver U notch rear. Note the distinctively shaped chamber area of the barrel; the Kamper was octagonal where this Hatfield is ground round chamber area. Receiver is chrome plated, with machine engraved markings and numbers. Breech mechanism works from moving the trigger guard. Ignition is flat faced, short serrated spur hammer with floating firing pin. Trigger is .312 smooth face cast steel. Safety system is two part: transfer bar and cross-receiver hammer block safety. Trigger pull, hammer cocking motion, and breeching motion all require between 15 and 20 pounds of pressure. This may be labeled a Youth Shotgun, but few youths will have sufficient manual strength to operate it. Forend is tapered and recessed; buttstock has the standard 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch drop, but with no right hand cast. Length of pull is 12 1/2 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 1/2 inch factory recoil pad. Overall length is 34 1/4 inches, or 20 1/2 in folded storage position. Weight empty is 4 pounds 3 ounces, center of gravity at the breech face. Finish is brushed surface blued, satin chrome, and enamel trigger guard. Stock and forend are oil finish, with machine cut lateral checkering on the wrist area or pistol grip. This is a well built, attractive shotgun. It is not, however, quite accurate to call it a Youth Gun due to the manual pressure required to operate it. We estimate a $75 gunsmith bill to accomplish that. Each Hatfield .410 comes in its factory box with protective packaging and instruction manual. Replacement pricing for a mint condition Kimel Kamper will run $200 or more.
