Shortly after the 1968 Gun Control Act implemented, Firearms International merged with Eig Cutlery in Miami to form Firearms Import and Export Corp, the direct ancestor to EAA. This was one of Firearms International’s best products, and we sold hundreds of them in the 1960s and early 1970. The Regent was a forceful competitor to the High Standard Sentinel. Frame was domestic FI brand, with parts manufactured by Astra Unceta y Cia., Guernica, Spain, as the period advertisement photo indicates. Barrel, cylinder, rod, trigger, hammer, frame shield, and internal parts are steel, with zinc alloy frame, cylinder yoke, and grip frame. Grip is one piece polymer, designed to copy the Sentinel. Barrel is pinned in piece, steel six inch six groove 1:16 right hand rifling. Sight is welded steel serrated front, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Trigger is .240 smooth face white steel, with matching serrated spur hammer. Ignition is floating firing pin, and the Regent has a transfer bar internal safety device that prevents the hammer from touching the firing pin unless the trigger is fully depressed. Cylinder holds 8 rounds of .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle caliber cartridges interchangeably. Grip is stem type, anticipating the Ruger GP-100 style, inside hard composite grips. Weight empty is 30 3/4 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger tip. Finish is entirely black semi gloss factory coated. This specimen comes to us from a New England Collection. From its R20000 range serial number, it was manufactured early in 1968. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally edge wear and holster wear to the barrel sides. We rate it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, mechanism and cylinder chambers are all bright and clean. Cylinder times correctly on all 8 positions in both single and double action. Single action trigger pull measures a stiff but crisp 6 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal. We estimate this Regent has been fired fewer than 500 times. High Standard Sentinels sold for $20 more than this one new, and now they bring $400 apiece.
