An honest old Colt SA 1st Gen 44/40 4 3/4"barrel. serial #165,xxx (1896) Mostly gray patina with original thin blue in protected areas. Some frame case color near base pin release screw. All original with strong matching numbers including frame and gate numbers. Sharp patent dates and trade mark on frame. Holster wear has thined out the still visible 2 line address on top of barrel and "Colt Frontier Six Shooter". The broken die "T's" are also visible. Front sight is full; bore is dark but with rifling. Mechanically it is sharp and crisp. No dings or scratches other than normal wear and tear. Original hard rubber grips are fine, with wear, but no chips or cracks. Original hammer has sharp knurling and good notches. This is as good a pre 1897, cowboy used Colt 44/40 you will find for the price. A collector, investor favorite. No FFL required for tranfer. 44/40 Colts 4 3/4" bl. were most desired by cowboys during the 1890's as a companion for their 44/40 Winchester, and ease of the shorter barrel length.
