S&W Model 640 Pro-Series SS .357 DAO Centennial w/ Night Sights Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Performance Center
Description: Nearly new Smith & Wesson Model 640 Pro Series .357 Magnum 5-Shot Revolver, 2 1/8 barrel. Stainless Steel Variation of the highly respected and much loved Centennial Model, treated to a number of Factory Upgrades. The sharp corners and edges have been "melted" for carry comfort and easier draw. The barrel has weight reducing grooves milled in it. It has NO fiddly "gun lock" gumming up the works. The cylinder has been prepared to accept full Moon Clips for fast and easy reloading. The three original clips supplied by S&W are still in their tiny ziplock bag, never used. The gun comes in the original case with all accoutrements and documents as originally delivered.

One of the best parts of this gun is the sights. S&W finally gave us a J-frame with factory dovetails! It currently is wearing the excellent original Night Sights that work quite well, a major "force-multiplier" for this platform. Wearing dovetail sights, they can be changed as one wishes. I enthusiastically recommend the fabulous Hexsites, nothing better for real world instinctual combat success. I wear them on my own side-arm, and will get them on more of my guns soon.

I am not positive, but I think this model is actually not a full "Performance Center" product, as some of those products are highly modified... I believe the Pro Series is just a step below a full on PC gun, but there's no box to tick indicating that this is still an amazingly special gun, and I think the Performance Center does do some of the work on this gun, but I am not certain of that. In any case, it's not a run of the mill gun, and it's seriously worth the consideration of anyone looking for an effective tool to preserve life.

The gun has been fired. Maybe a dozen rounds, then well cleaned. It has some indications that it is not factory fresh, but nothing that could be considered a blemish. I consider it "As New," but some may see if differently. It certainly does not have any "wear" on it.

As a DAO, double-action-only, with the brilliant completely enclosed action reducing use of the weapon to the trigger alone. There's no hammer to snag on a draw, or dig into your liver during carry. No hammer also prevents those whose weapons training consists solely of watching bad TV shows from immediately cocking the hammer the instant they lay hands on the weapon, for no rational purpose, in a home, fully loaded, without a clue as to how one lowers a hammer on a live round sufficiently gently to avoid a discharge. If you have to hand a weapon to a non-initiate in an emergency, this is is the gun for the job. It requires only a pull of the trigger, but a pull that cannot happen by accident.

Being stainless, and with a virtually sealed firing mechanism, these are great carry guns. Deep cover and perspiration are generally pretty tough on a gun, requiring lots of upkeep, but these stainless steel Centennials are amazing. Seriously low maintenance tools.

These are special guns, very unique, very tough, very safe, and very effective.
